CATFA META: Where were the Hydra bases?

Today’s pointless and yet strangely therapeutic meta exercise:

Trying to work out:

A) where were the Hydra bases Steve and the Howlies attacked in WWII,

B) what order could they have attacked them in?

Okay map I made by taking the one Steve glimpses in CATFA, overlaying it on gmaps and picking places in those approximate areas:



That looks like: France, Italy, Greece, Czech Republic, and Poland.

I have discovered that the OG Hydra map in the film actually has numbers on the bases (which my shitty screencaps / eyes were too shitty to spot before 😩) viz.


So I think now it’s more like:



(it's interesting how the bases make a ring around germany (especially if you add in krausberg in austria) · that one in greece is an anomaly if it were me I'd think there would be another one in holland)

However, just because the Hydra factories are numbered that way on their map, that doesn’t mean that’s the same order Steve n’ Co. took them down. 🤦‍♀️

UPDATE:
I have discovered that the CATFA script has several chyrons indicating where the Howlies were supposed to be and when!

“FRANCE, DECEMBER 1943.”
“BELGIUM, JANUARY 1944.”
“POLAND, FEBRUARY 1944.”
“CZECHOSLOVAKIA, AUGUST 1944.”
“RUSSIA, JANUARY 1945.”

Which… makes no mention of Italy or Greece at all, and adds Belgium and Russia.

There aren’t any bases indicated on-screen as being in Russia, either – I definitely don’t remember any reference to Russia in the dialogue (plus, Russia was an ally at the time, so Zola taking a train there would be suicide!)

All in all they’d probably have 9-10 missions over the course of 473 days:

1. Hydra factory in France (script)
2. Hydra factory in Italy (film)
3. Hydra factory in Greece?
4. Hydra factory in Poland
5. Hydra factory in Czechslovakia
6. Hydra factory in Poland (film) / Russia (script)
7. D-day mission (if the Smithsonian footage is accurate)
8. Winter mission to break Hydra blockade (if the Smithsonian footage is accurate; could be Battle of the Bulge? 🤔 could be the ‘Belgium’ from the Script, moved a year later?)
9. Zola capture mission (in the Alps)
10. Valkyrie mission (also in the Alps).

Sidenote:
The map Steve sees in Col. Phillips’ tent, showing Krausberg:



… is nonsense.

On top of showing Krausberg’s distance from the US Army base being more like 55 miles than the specified 35, it also shows the base being in Austria, when the chyron clearly tells us it’s in Italy. And the dialogue also specifies that Steve would have to walk to Austria to get to Krausberg – so he can’t already be in Austria!
